Bhagalpur: Sharp Shooter Involved in Contract Killing Arrested

Bhagalpur: Bhagalpur police on Sunday registered a major success by arresting Fantoos Tanti, a sharp shooter involved in contract killing. He was wanted by police in connection with his involvement in number of criminal incidents. Tanti was arrested following raid conducted by police team at his house located in Badi Khanjarpur area.

Apart from Tanti police also succeeded in arresting an anti- social identified as Mantoo Yadav in course of the raid. On basis of information provided by them two other anti-socials identified as Amar Kumar Singh alias Monu Mishra and Wana Sah were subsequently nabbed by police.

A loaded regular revolver with three cartridges and a loaded country made revolver having a cartridge were recovered from possession of Tanti. A snatched motorcycle and a mobile phone were other items recovered from possession of noted criminal.

Police efforts to nab Tanti had been stepped up after Sweta Devi wife of Rakesh Sah had lodged a complaint against him at Isakchak PS on April 22 regarding ransom demand. In her complaint the complainant had stated that by issuing kidnapping threat Tanti was mounting pressure on her and also her husband to meet his ransom demand.

The complainant had further stated that he was also threatening them to make their intimate picture viral. Tanti had forced them to transfer her intimate picture with her husband to him, the complainant had added in her complaint. Following seizure of mobile phone of Tanti, the allegation of complainant that they were forced to forward their intimate picture to him has been found to be true by police.

Meanwhile a joint police team of Isakchak PS and Barari PS that initially went to house of Tanti today for arresting him had face stiff opposition from local people including male and females. The police team was attacked by people opposing arrest of Tanti. As per unconfirmed report some policemen were injured in attack on police team.

Subsequently on directive of SSP Anand Kumar under supervision of Amit Ranjan, city SP a special police team led by Ajay Kumar Choudhury, DSP (City) constituted for purpose of raid and arrest of Tanti was sent to the place of occurrence.

Five women involved in violent protest against police action were also arrested in course of raid. The police raid for recovering more firearms was underway till filling of this report. As per available information earlier a small time criminal, Tanti mainly used to indulge in theft.

However, with gradual rise of his stature in crime world, he became sharp shooter and also took to contract killing. As per police he had been involved in cases of extortion, murder, abduction, loot and arms trafficking.

Some sensational criminal activities in which Tanti had been involved include theft in locked house of late Manorma Devi founder of Srijan Women Cooperative Society. The Srijan Cooperative Society it may be mentioned had been involved in multi crore financial scam here. Theft in Ara residence of famous Bhojpuri Singer and cinema star Pawan Singh is yet another sensational case in which Tanti had been involved.

At sealed house of late Manaroma Devi theft was conducted by Tanti after Srijan scam came to light and her house was sealed by investigating agency. Ornaments in huge quantity besides other valuable items were stolen by breaking open lock of the sealed house.

The members of the police team involved in raid and arrest of Tanti included Ashok Kumar, officer-in-charge, Isakchak PS, Sanjay Kumar Sudhanshu, circle inspector, Sanjay Kumar Satyarthi, officer-in-charge, Barari PS, Rajratan, officer-in-charge, Tilkamanjhi PS, beside others.
