Patna: Assam defeated Bihar by 9 wickets in the Ranji Trophy match in Guwahati on Monday. Chasing 95 runs to win in their second innings, Assam scored 100 for one wicket off 14.1 overs and won the match.
Bihar scored 207 runs in the first innings and 292 runs in the second innings. Assam scored 405 runs in the first innings.
Resuming at 168 for five wickets in the second innings on the last day of the match, Bihar scored 292 runs. In the second innings, Piyush Kumar Singh of Bihar scored a brilliant century of 103 run. Sraman Nigrodh scored 23 runs, Sakibul Gani scored one run and Bipin Saurabh scored 44 runs, Rishav Raj scored 20 runs, Raghavendra Pratap scored 22 runs, Param Jeet Singh scored 9 runs and Veer Pratap scored one run. Amod and Vipul both scored 11 runs each, while Ashutosh Aman remained unbeaten after scoring 23 runs.
In the second innings, for Assam, Rahul took 5 wickets, Mukhtar and Sarupam Purkayastha took 2 wickets each and Mrinmoy took one wicket.
Chasing 95 ton win, Assam easily achieved the target, losing one wicket with the help of Pervez Musharraf 52 runs and Danis Das 22 runs and both remained not out. Assam scored 100 runs for one wicket and won the match by 9 wickets. Assam’s only batsman Rahul was caught out by Gani on the ball of Veer after scoring 22 runs. Bihar’s next match will be against Bengal at Eden Gardens, Kolkata from February 16.
