Patna: A fine 84 runs by Ankit Raj guided Bihar to 196 all out in an otherwise dismal show from the other batsmen on the first day of their four-day Col. CK Nayudu Trophy match against hosts Maharashtra at the MCA Ground in Pune on Sunday.
At the end of the day, Maharashtra were 51 for the loss of two wickets.
Earlier, Maharashtra won the toss and elected to field first. Batting first, Bihar lost their first wicket for only 5 runs on the board. The second wicket partnership of 56 runs between Himanshu Singh and Ankit Raj added some respectability to Bihar score. Bihar lost their second wicket for 61 runs when Himanshu Singh departed making 36 runs. After that, wickets fell at regular intervals, but Ankit Raj held the forte at one end.
Ankit scored 84 runs off 219 balls, with nine boundaries and one six. For Maharashtra, medium pacer AS Thenge took four wickets, giving away 57 runs off 18.5 overs, while PS Sanap bagged three wickets for 24 runs.
In reply, Maharashtra also lost two wickets quickly with 28 runs on the board. Amod Yadav did the most damage, taking two wickets for 20 runs in six overs.
