Maryam Fatima takes sole lead in Bihar State Women’s Chess

Patna, May 11: After the end of the fifth round in the Bihar State Women’s Chess Championship, the top seeded player, Maryam Fatima of Muzaffarpur, was leading the table scoring five points in 5 rounds. Gaya’s Pari Sinha was at the second position with 4.5 points, while five players were jointly at the third position with four points.

In the fifth round match played today, international player Maryam Fatima, playing with black pieces, defeated Neha Singh in 38 moves. By scoring full points in this French game, Maryam has taken her steps towards the title. Gaya’s Pari Sinha, playing on the number three board, forced Vaishali’s Rashmi Priya to give up the game in the last game. With this, Pari was alone in second place with 4.5 points.


A total of five players are still in the race for third place with four points. Minky Sinha (4) defeated Adiba Ullah (3.5) on the second number board, Shweta Kumari (4) of Buxar defeated Shreya Kumari (3) of Buxar, Manisha Yadav (4) of Darbhanga defeated Kumari Prerna (3) of Saharsa, on number seven board, Arpita Singh(4)of Bhojpur defeated Aadya Shree (3) of Muzaffarpur and on number nine board, Mohini Pandit (4) of Chapra defeated Ankita Raj of Patna.

Two more rounds of the championship will be played tomorrow. The prize distribution ceremony of the tournament will be held tomorrow at 3 pm.
