Patna: Haryana defeated Bihar by 31 runs in the U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy tournament being played in Chandigarh. Bihar lost the match despite a gallant 139 runs by Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
His 139 runs came off 137 balls with the help of six sixes and 14 fours.
Earlier, Bihar won the toss and invited Haryana to bat. Haryana scored 280 runs for eight wickets in 50 overs, while Bihar’s team fell short of the target of victory by scoring 249 runs after losing eight wickets in 50 overs.
For Haryana, Yashvardhan scored 61 runs, Ashish and Akash scored 37 runs each, Chirag made 36 runs, Shubham scored 28 runs, Jayant made 20 runs and Kartikeya was out after scoring 16 runs. For Bihar, Vashudev and Satyam took two wickets each and Vivek and Suman took one wicket each. Two players were run out.
Needing 281 to win, Bihar could score only 249 runs after losing eight wickets in 50 overs. Vaibhav, who scored a half-century in the first match for Bihar, struck his first century in this season. For Bihar, Animesh scored 44 runs. Raj Kumar Yadav (17) and Satyam Kumar (14) runs were the other contributors. For Haryana, Mayank took 4 wickets, Himanshu took 2 wickets and Abhijeet and Jayant took 1 wicket each.
Bihar’s next match will be against Manipur on October 16.
