Patna: A comprehensive meeting chaired by District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh was held at the Collectorate auditorium to discuss traffic management, civic amenities, city beautification, and other developmental initiatives for Patna. The meeting focused on short-term and long-term action plans to ensure the city’s multifaceted growth, tailored to the needs of its residents.

Addressing the officials, Dr Singh highlighted Patna’s rapid development, with numerous roads, bridges, flyovers, and metro projects shaping the cityscape. He noted that government initiatives have significantly improved the quality of life for the general public.

Strengthening Urban Management

The state government has approved a dedicated organisational structure to bolster urban systems in Patna. This includes the creation of 42 administrative posts, such as Additional District Magistrate (Urban Management), and 153 police posts, including Deputy Superintendent of Police and Constables. Additionally, posts for municipal officers have been sanctioned to enhance coordination between the district administration, police, and municipal bodies under the District Magistrate’s supervision.

The Additional District Magistrate (Urban Management) has been tasked with conducting regular encroachment removal campaigns to alleviate issues such as traffic congestion. Dr Singh emphasised the importance of keeping roads, footpaths, and service lanes free from encroachments to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Citizen-Centric Initiatives

A WhatsApp number and a control room will be set up to gather public feedback and suggestions on urban systems. Dr Singh encouraged residents to report issues and share ideas, assuring prompt action from the administration.

Traffic Management and Beautification

Dr Singh underscored the importance of smooth traffic systems for public convenience and economic growth. Measures such as U-turns, one-way routes, traffic diversions, and the installation of signboards are being implemented. Illegal parking and unauthorised commercial activities on main roads are being strictly prohibited.

Patna Smart City Limited is playing a pivotal role in traffic management through the deployment of over 3,300 CCTV cameras across 415 locations, including Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) and Speed Violation Detection (SVD) systems. Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) are being implemented, featuring public address systems, emergency call boxes, and environmental sensors.

Focus on Green Development and Parking Solutions

Plans are underway to develop green spaces, improve parking facilities, and ensure encroachment-free zones. Key areas such as Nehru Path, Boring Road, Kankarbagh, and Ashok Rajpath are being prioritised for traffic decongestion and improved transport.

Commitment to Excellence

Dr Singh reiterated the administration’s commitment to enhancing civic amenities, traffic systems, and the city’s aesthetics. He emphasised that Patna’s role as a gateway to eastern and north-eastern India necessitates high-tech traffic management and urban planning.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order), District Transport Officer, and other key personnel. Together, they pledged to work towards a more efficient and beautiful Patna.
