Bhagalpur: A fake website being run in the name of T. M. Bhagalpur University (TMBU) has created a serious problem for the university. The university filed a First Information Report (FIR) last night against unidentified cybercriminals under the Cybercrime Act for running a fake website in the name of the university.

The FIR was lodged at the university police station by Prof. Shambhu Dutt Jha, proctor of the university. It has been stated in the FIR that the university has sole ownership rights to its website, bearing the address www.tmbuniv.ac. Apart from this website, another is being run with wrong intentions by people involved in cybercrime using the name and logo of TMBU.

Various social sites, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and YouTube, are being accessed through the website, which is thoroughly illegal, and has been further mentioned in the FIR. The university has submitted documentary evidence to the police substantiating that a fake website developed in the name of the university was developed with wrong intentions by people involved in cybercrime.

In the FIR, the police have been requested to close the website link address and take punitive action against people involved in running the fake website. Deepak Kumar Dinkar, the university’s public relations officer (PRO), confirmed that a complaint had been made about a fake website.

The PRO said that though it is yet to be authenticated by cyber experts, internal findings of the university suggest the involvement of an overseas company in the running of a fake website in the name of the university.
