Thousands of Students and Youth to March on Bihar Assembly on March 10

Patna: Thousands of students and youth are set to gather at the Bihar Assembly on March 10 during the ongoing session of the state legislature. They plan to stage a protest, or gherao, the assembly to press for their demands, which include improvements in education and employment opportunities. This decision was made by student and youth leaders during a meeting of the Chhatra-Yuva Sangharsh Morcha held today. The joint movement involves prominent organisations such as the NSUI, AISF, SFI, Social Justice Army, DYFI, AIYF, Youth Congress, AAP Youth Wing, Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, and CYSS.

Key demands of the protest include the reinstatement of all vacant posts, including teachers and other employees; regularisation of the academic session; cancellation and re-conduct of the 70th BPSC examination; a ban on paper leaks and the implementation of stricter laws; student union elections; employment for all or an unemployment allowance of ₹10,000; transparency in PhD admissions and the introduction of non-NET fellowships; free enrolment for all female students and SC-ST students up to postgraduate level; a ban on contractual recruitment and the permanent appointment of current contractual employees; the formation of a youth commission; and a ban on fee hikes at all levels.

The meeting was chaired by Congress state committee member Sushil Kumar. Attendees included DYFI state president Manoj Chandravanshi, NSUI state president Suraj Singh Yadav, AISF national council member Sudhir Kumar, AIYF national secretary Roshan Kumar Sinha, Social Justice Army president Gautam Anand, Youth Congress state vice-president Khushboo Kumari, SFI state president Kanti Kumari, AAP youth wing state president Himanshu Patel, and Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha state president Suraj Yadav. Also present were DYFI state secretary Rajneesh Kumar, AIYF state co-secretary Shambhu Deva, Youth Congress state spokesperson Sanskar Rai, NSUI’s Shivraj, and AISF’s Sujeet.

The protest aims to draw attention to the pressing issues faced by students and young people in Bihar, urging the state government to take immediate action.
