Patna, July 26: A suspected case of monkeypox was detected in Gurhatta locality Patna on Tuesday. A team of virologists from Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) have collected the samples of the patient, a woman, for testing.
An official of the Bihar health department said the woman was showing all the symptoms of monkeypox and she had been put under home isolation. Her sample would be sent to National Institute of Virology, Pune, for testing, the official said, adding that they were trying to find out if the woman had a recent travel history.
Meanwhile, the Bihar government has directed health officials to remain on alert and asked medical and nursing staff to inform the department as soon as symptoms of the disease was detected in any patient.
State Health Minister Mangal Pandey had on Monday held a high-level meeting with senior officials of his department and directed them to make people aware of the symptoms of monkeypox as per the guidelines of the central government and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
