Sukhdeo Cricket begins: Delhi Model Public School and Exceed India High School win

Patna: Delhi Model Public School defeated JK International School by 87 runs and Exceed India High School defeated Gyan Ganga Public School by 8 wickets to earn full points in the 37th All India Sukhdeo Narain Memorial Inter School Cricket Tournament  Urja Stadium on Monday. The tournament is being organized by Indu Narain Foundation for Youth Welfare and BPS Foundation.

Mohit Kumar of Delhi Model Public School, who took 31 runs and 3 wickets, was awarded the Man of the Match award by Rajesh Kumar Singh, former office-bearer of Bihar Cricket Association, while Ayush Patel of JK International School, who took 30 not out and 3 wickets, was awarded the man of the match award by PDCA’s convener Rajesh Kumar.

The tournament had a gala opening  function with the slogans “improve self-confidence in children and “inspire India’s pride”. Chief guest MLC Vinod Kumar Jaiswal, former president of Bihar Cricket Association, special guests, Neeraj Saxena, Mritunjay Tiwari, Professor Lala Ashutosh, P K Sinha, Rajnesh Singh, Vijay Bhaskar jointly inaugurated the tournament after getting introduced to the players and releasing balloons in the air.

On this occasion saplings were distributed to dignitaries and players under Jal Jeevan Hariyali Mission.  The oath to play the game in true spirit was administered by Mritunjay Tiwari, president of Bihar Players Association. Describing Vijay Kumar Narain Chunnu, the organising secretary of the tournament, as the messiah of school cricket, all the guests said that Chunnu, is Dashrath Manjhi of cricket. They further said that he had not only made Bihar proud but also made history in the country by conducting the tournament for school children continuously for 37 years. The stage was moderated by Mritunjay Jha. Many dignitaries including Ajay Narayan Sharma, Ravi Shankar Prasad Singh, former secretary of Bihar Cricket Association were present on the occasion.

Batting first in today’s first match, Delhi Model Public School team scored 164 runs losing 7 wickets in 25 overs. Ankit Raj (41), Mohit Kumar (31), Adarsh Kumar (29) and Ishant Raj (20) were the notable scorers. For JK International School, Sarvesh Sagar and Prasanth got two wickets each giving away 16 and 28 runs respectively.

In reply, JK International School were all out scoring 77 runs.

Batting first in the second match, the Gyan Ganga Public School scored 105 runs. In reply, Exceed India High School scored 109 runs by losing 2 wickets.
