Sreenidi Deccan crush RoundGlass Punjab in Hero I-League

Hyderabad: RoundGlass Punjab FC (RGPFC) suffered their second loss of the season when they were defeated by Sreenidi Deccan FC (SDFC) 4 – 0 in the Round 12 fixture of the Hero I-League 2022-23 season played here at the Deccan Arena. With this loss, RoundGlass Punjab climbed down to second place on the points table, while Sreenidi Deccan claimed the top spot. David Munoz scored one in each half, while Shahabaaz and Soraisham Dinesh Singh scored the other goals for the home side.

RGPFC coach Staikos Vergetis made four changes to the starting lineup, with Freddy Lallawmawma, Deepak Devrani, Pranjal Bhumij and new signing Chencho Gyeltshen starting instead of Hmingthanmawia, Krishnananda Singh, Ashis Pradhan and Juan Mera. Sreenidi coach Carlos Manuel fielded his strong side for the crucial match. SDFC started the first half on the front foot and controlled the game from the beginning. They put the RGPFC defence and midfield under relentless pressure. Sreenidi broke the deadlock in the 13th minute through a mistake from RGPFC keeper Kiran Kumar Limbu. He slipped a long pass from the Sreenidi half through his hands which was then stolen by Sreenidi left back Shahabaaz who had to just roll the ball inside the empty net. RGPFC was put under further pressure when Sreenidi doubled the lead in the 31st minute. David Munoz was found by a through ball from Afghan midfielder Faysal Shayesteh. Munoz’s first shot was saved by keeper Kiran Kumar but the rebound fell kindly for the Spaniard who tapped in the goal to take his tally of the season to 10 goals. RGPFC did not look settled in the whole half at the Deccan Arena and could not create any momentum going forward.

The second half also saw a similar pattern of play from both the sides. Sreenidi captain David Munoz was becoming a menace for the RGPFC defence. His powerful shot from outside the box was acrobatically saved by Kiran Kumar but the resultant corner brought the third goal for the home side in the 62nd minute. Central defender Soraisham Dinesh Singh leaped above everyone to plant a header past the keeper. The RGPFC coach brought in changes and introduced Juan Mera, Krishnananda Singh, Ashis Pradhan, Daniel Lalhlimpuia and Maheson Singh to influence the game. RGPFC looked better in attack with Juan Mera and Krishnananda Singh looking lively going forward but they could not find any clear cut opportunities to score or trouble the Sreenidi goalkeeper Ubaid C.K. David Munoz added more misery for RGPFC when he scored his second and the team’s fourth goal in the 88th minute. His powerful shot from outside the box left keeper Kiran Kumar helpless who could just watch it sail past him completing a forgetful afternoon for the Punjab side. David Castaneda Munoz of Sreenidi Deccan FC was adjudged the Hero of the Match.

RGPFC have 23 points from eleven matches while Sreenidi Deccan FC have 25 points from twelve matches. RGPFC will face Mohammedan SC on January 22nd at Kishore Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata in their next match.
