Patna: The two-day Siphai Bhagat Memorial Inter-School Kho-Kho Tournament was inaugurated on Saturday under the aegis of the Siphai Bhagat Foundation at Open Mind A Birla School, Danapur.
On the first day, teams from the Sipahi Bhagat Foundation and Saint Teresa emerged victorious in both categories.
The tournament was officially inaugurated by Mrityunjay Tiwari, President of the Bihar Players Association, and the school Principal, Paljinder Pal Singh, who jointly broke a coconut and released white pigeons, symbolising peace, before introducing themselves to the players. Aman Kumar, COO of Open Mind A Birla School, Danapur, extended his best wishes to the participating teams and the organisers.
The programme began with the national anthem, followed by a tribute to Siphai Bhagat, with attendees offering flowers before his oil painting. An impressive march-past ensued, during which the guests took the salute. The march-past was initiated by the school’s sports head, Karandhir Sharma, who waved the green flag. During the inauguration, students captivated the audience with cultural performances. The guests were welcomed by Principal Paljinder Pal Singh, who presented them with bouquets, mementoes, and shawls.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Middle Wing Coordinator Poonam Pandey, Primary Wing Coordinator Nupur, and Pre-Primary Wing Coordinator Momita Sen. The entire programme was conducted under the supervision of Santosh Tiwari, founder of the Sardar Patel Sports Foundation. Matches are being held in the Under-15 category for girls and the Under-17 category for boys.
