Gaya: Shaina Manimuthu of Karnataka won the girls U-13 singles title of Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub Junior (U-13) Ranking Badminton Tournament defeating
Lakshmi Sai Aaradhya Rachapudi of Andhra Pradesh 21-10, 21-10 at Lord Buddha Badminton Academy hall, DPS School Gaya, here on Sunday.
Pushkar Sai of Karnataka claimed the boys singles title defeating Harshit Khatri of Delhi 22-20, 21-14.
Later, Shaina Manimuthu clinched a grand double when partnering with Jesiccs Neyi Saring of Arunachal Pradesh, she defeated the pair of Gauri Kalla (Haryana)and Joel Rana (Haryana) 21-13, 23-21.
The Rajasthan pir of Anshuman Choudhary and Kandarp Sharma won the boys doubles title beating the pair of Swayamdyuti Ghosh (WB) and Hemanth Sri Sammetla (AP) 21-17 21-18.
In this tournament, which started on June 27, 450 players from all over India participated. This mega event happened for the first time in the history of Gaya. Lord Buddha Badminton Academy, Magadh Sports Society DPS Campus and Gaya District Badminton Association and Gandhi Maidan Gaya’s cooperation for this event was commendable.
Later, the chief guest, former Bihar minister and vice-president of Badminton Association of India Dr Abdul Bari Siddiqui, former Bihar agriculture minister and BJP MLA from Gaya City MLA Dr Prem Kumar, Badminton Association of India’s Observer KK Sharma and Arjuna awardee and former national champion Abhin Shyam Gupta gave away the prizes.
Magadh Sports Society director Sanjeev Kumar, secretary of Bihar Badminton Association K N Jaiswal, vice president of Gaya District Badminton Association Dr Prakash Singh, president of Gaya District Badminton Association Rajan Sijuwar, Joint Secretary of Bihar Badminton Association Naveen Kumar, Vikas Sijuwar, Vijay Bhalotia, DPS Principal Satyendra Mishra, Akshay Kumar from DPS, facility manager Manish Kumar, creative director Gaurav Kumar, Akshay Kumar, and the entire strong team of DPS were present on the occasion.
