Patna: The second edition of the Bihar Women’s Kho-Kho Premier League will be organised under the aegis of the Kho-Kho Association of Bihar from June 11 to 15 at the YNR Group of Institutions campus in Mahua, Vaishali district.
Sharing this information, Neeraj Kumar Pappu, General Secretary of the Kho-Kho Association of Bihar, said that the traditional Indian sport of kho-kho has gained significant popularity in Bihar in recent years. Interest among girl players in this sport has grown notably. To further encourage this interest, the association has decided to host the second season of the women’s premier league and continue the initiative in the future.
He mentioned that the first season was successfully held in Masaurhi, and the second edition will now take place in Mahua. Responding to demand from players and Kho-Kho enthusiasts, this season will feature cash prizes for the winning and runner-up teams along with several other awards.
He added that the player selection process for the league has already been completed. A total of 10 teams will participate in the league, with 15 players in each team. The teams will be divided into two groups, and each team will get to play at least four matches. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
Neeraj Kumar Pappu also said that Sanjit Kumar, secretary of the Vaishali District Mukhiya Association, is involved in the event. Various committees will soon be formed to ensure the smooth conduct of the tournament.
The matches will be played on mats and will be day-night fixtures. Players are required to report at the venue by 10 AM on June 11. Arrangements for accommodation and food will be made within the event premises.
He further said that talented players from this league will also be selected to represent Bihar in national-level competitions.
Sanjit Kumar, the event president, remarked that the Kho-Kho Association of Bihar has entrusted them with a great responsibility, and sports lovers of Vaishali will fulfill it sincerely. He added that their effort is to provide players a platform to grow while playing on the soil of Vaishali.
Excitement is high among sports enthusiasts across Mahua and the entire Vaishali region in anticipation of the event.
Amit Kumar, secretary of the organising committee, said that the event would contribute significantly to the development of kho-kho in Bihar. He remarked that hosting such a large event in a place like Mahua is commendable. He assured that all necessary facilities for players would be well taken care of, and they will also be taken on a tour of Vaishali’s tourist destinations.
