Hajipur: Saurabh Kumar of Patna overpowered Bittu Kumar of East Champaran in the 53 kg category of the Bihar State sub-junior grappling championships at Kushwaha Ashram in Hajipur (Vaishali) on Saturday. In the 43 kg girls; category Tamanna Kumari of East Champaran beat Saloni Kumari of Vaishali.
The tournament is being orgainsed under the aegis of Grappling Committee of Bihar and Vaishali District Grappling Committee. Earlier, this two-day state championship was inaugurated by Dr Ranjit Kumar Singh (IAS), director of Panchayati Raj department and patron of Grappling Committee of Bihar by lighting the lamp and releasing the balloon.
Addressing the players and sports enthusiasts Dr Singh said that I am very happy that I got an opportunity to come to Vaishali’s land as the patron of the grappling committee. I will extend all possible help make grappling popular among the youth.
He said that sports and education are complementary to each other. Sports are very important for the all-round development of human beings. Presiding over the function, president of Grappling Committee of Bihar Kishalay Kishore said that about 200 players from different districts are participating in the first ever state championships. He said in future, the game will become popular in all 38 districts of the state.
Grappling Committee of Bihar secretary Gouri Shankar welcomed the guests while Ravi Ranjan Kumar, secretary, Vaishali District Grappling Committee proposed a vote of thanks.
