PATNA: A sand-laden boat with 21 people on board capsized in Ganga river in Patna on Sunday. While 15 persons either swam to safety or were rescued, six were still missing.

The mishap occurred when the boat hit pillar number 12 of JP Setu, a bridge that connects Patna’s Digha locality with Sonepur in Saran district.

The survivors said the boat sank in the river as the boatmen lost control over the vessel after it hit the pillar.

Among those missing are Bhagwan Singh, Kailash Rai, Bhuletan Rai, Ram Balak Rai and Pappu Rai, all residents Mahinwa Bagicha village in Manel block of Patna district.

This is the second incident of boat capsizing after hitting the pillar of the bridge. On Wednesday last, a boat carrying 11 people had overturned after colliding with a pillar of the JP Setu. While nine people were rescued, two are still missing.
