Patna: Saloni Kumari of Purnia secured the women’s singles title at the Hundred Bihar State Senior Badminton Championship in Bhagalpur on Saturday, defeating Srija of Patna in straight sets, 21-15, 21-15. In the men’s singles final, Kartik of Patna emerged victorious, overpowering Sameer Raj of Purnia 21-15, 21-9.
In the women’s doubles final, the duo of Saloni Kumari and Simran Singh (representing Purnia and Patna) triumphed over the pair of Fiza Hassan and Ranya Rana (Kaimur and Gaya), with a decisive 21-4, 21-16 win.
The men’s doubles final witnessed a thrilling encounter as the team of Ambuj Prakash and Tushar Kumar Setu (Jehanabad and Vaishali) edged past Abhiraj and Garv Sharda (both from Purnia) with a narrow 22-20, 21-18 victory to secure the title.
In the mixed doubles final, Tabrez and Simran Singh (both from Patna) claimed the honours by defeating the pair of Sameer Raj and Vaibhavi Singh (Purnia and Katihar) 21-12, 21-18.
The prize distribution ceremony, held later in the day, was graced by the Secretary of the Bihar Badminton Association, K.N.J. Jaisal, along with other distinguished guests who presented the awards to the winners and runners-up.
The four-day tournament, which commenced on 27th November and concluded on 30th November, witnessed enthusiastic participation from male and female players representing all affiliated units of the Bihar Badminton Association. The championship showcased intense competition and a high standard of badminton, underlining the growing popularity and talent in the sport across the state.
The tournament was sponsored by Hundred, a sister concern of badminton equipment manufacturing company Li Ning.
