Saharsa: The Ravindra Narayan Singh Memorial 70th Bihar State Inter-District Table Tennis Championship was inaugurated with great fanfare at the local Sports Bhawan. The event is being organised under the aegis of the Bihar Table Tennis Association and hosted by the Saharsa District Table Tennis Association. District Magistrate Vaibhav Chaudhary (IAS) inaugurated the competition by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
In the Boys Under-11 Singles category, Naman Gupta from Madhepura emerged victorious, defeating Virat Narayan of Patna 3-1 in the final. Earlier, in the semi-finals, Naman defeated Utkarsh Reagan of Madhepura 3-0, while Virat overcame Alvin Boro 3-2 in a closely contested match.
In the Girls Under-11 Singles final, Neelanjana Sharma of Muzaffarpur will face Shranaya Anand of Madhepura. In the semi-finals, Neelanjana defeated Araadhya 3-0, and Shranaya overcame Vaishnavi 3-1.
Addressing the audience during the inaugural ceremony, District Magistrate Vaibhav Chaudhary remarked, “If you study and write, you will become a Nawab; if you play and jump, you will be amazing.” He emphasised the importance of such events in providing opportunities for children from smaller cities like Saharsa and thanked the organisers for their efforts. He assured continued support from the district administration to enhance the sports environment in the region.
The tournament features players from Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19, Under-23, and Open age categories. Accommodation for all participants has been arranged in various hotels. Players excelling in this competition will strengthen their chances of representing Bihar in national-level tournaments.
Special guests at the event included Kosi Chamber of Commerce President Arjun Dahalan, Eklavya Central School Director Mukesh Kumar Singh, Krida Bharti State President Chandrashekhar Adhikari, BJP leader Shashi Shekhar Samrat, and other notable dignitaries.
The tournament, being held at the Sports Bhawan in Saharsa, will run from 21 December to 25 December.
