Patna: Ryan Mohammad of Bihar won the Under 13 Open title in the 12th National School Championship which concluded on Saturday at Gyan Bhawan here with a gala prize-distribution function.
Dr. B. Rajender, Principal Secretary, Sports Department, Government of Bihar, as the chief guest, distributed trophies, medals and cash prizes to the winning players. Director General cum Chief Executive Officer of Bihar State Sports Authority Mr. Raveendran Sankaran along with Director cum Secretary Pankaj Kumar Raj, President of Thailand Chess Association and Treasurer of Asian Chess Association Shahpaul and President of All Bihar Chess Association Diljit Khanna and Secretary cum Chief Convenor of this competition Dharmendra Kumar were present on the occasion.
In his address, Shri Rajender congratulated all the organisers, coaches, participants and their parents for successfully organizing this competition. He requested everyone to come and visit Bihar again and again so that they can understand Bihar and develop more positive thinking about it. He further said that the Bihar government is committed to the all-round development of sports and players in the state and is continuously making every possible effort and cooperation. In future, many national and international level sports tournaments and events will be organized here. It is a matter of pride and happiness for Bihar that Ryan Mohammad of Bihar has become the Under 13 Open Champion in this competition, he said.
Director General cum Chief Executive Officer of Bihar State Sports Authority, Raveendran Sankaran, while greeting everyone including the Chief Guest, said that it is a big and proud thing for Bihar to organize such a big level competition so successfully. I have full hope that all the players and parents who have come from outside will go back with a pleasant and positive experience about the event held here.
Shankaran said that as the organizing representative of the Asian School Chess Championship and the President of the Thailand Chess Association and the Treasurer of the Asian Chess Association, Shahpaul is especially pleased today to invite you to participate in the Asian School Championship 2024 to be held in Thailand. He has reached Patna for the event. The winners of this competition are future national and international champions and grandmasters.
Shahpaul was greeted by chief guest Dr. Rajender by wearing a shawl. All the distinguished people present on the stage were honored with mementos by the All Bihar Chess Association.
It is noteworthy that more than 1000 players from all over the country, including 250 from Bihar, participated in the 5-day long 12th National School Chess Championship 2024.
Competitions were organized in a total of 12 categories including both boys and girls categories in Under 7, Under 9, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 age groups and the 12 best players out of these were selected for the Asian School Championship 2024 in Thailand at government expense will get an opportunity to play.
