Patna: India clinched the gold medal in the Under-12 category of the Asian Youth Chess Championship held in Bali, Indonesia on Friday. Along with this, Indian team also got a silver medal in the Blitz event of this category. The team consisted of Ethan Vaz, Adireedy Arjun and Ryan Mohammad.
The championships was organized for young players from all over Asia in the, under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 (boys and girls) age groups. There matches were held in all three categories of classical, rapid and blitz. India got three gold, three silver and four bronze medals in Classical, 5 gold, one silver and 3 bronze medals in Rapid event and 5 gold, 2 silver and one bronze medal in Blitz.
The best performing teams and their members in each age group of every competition were awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals.
India got gold medal in Classical under 12 and silver medal in Blitz under 12. Ryan was the member of the Indian team in the two events.
Ryan has played for India in the World and Asian Chess Championships last year. This information was given by the All Bihar Chess Association secretary Dharmendra Kumar who himself was present there along with Ryan on the occasion.
