Patna: Candidate Master Reyan Mohammad emerged victorious at the Bihar State Amateur Chess Championship, organised by Gurukul Chess Academy under the aegis of the All Bihar Chess Association. Reyan clinched the title with a stellar 8 points after defeating Vijendra Kumar in the final round.
The five-day tournament, held at Ravi Nandan Sahay Smriti Indoor Stadium in Jhapahan, Muzaffarpur, concluded with intense matches on the top two boards. Four players started the final day tied at 7 points each. On the first board, Reyan, playing with white pieces, defeated Vijendra Kumar to secure a decisive win. Meanwhile, the game between Ashutosh Kumar and Vivek Sharma on the second board ended in a draw, allowing Ryan to leap ahead in the standings with his eighth point.
The prize distribution ceremony saw the presence of distinguished guests, including Sitamarhi MP Devesh Chandra Thakur, Joint Secretary of Tirhut Physical Education College Manish Kumar, and Chief Arbiter Nand Kishore, who presented awards to the winners.
Based on the championship’s merit list, players will be selected for various rating categories to participate in the National Chess Championship.
