Protests Erupt Across Bihar Over Alleged BPSC Irregularities: Pappu Yadav’s Supporters Lead Bihar Bandh

By Vishwapati

Patna: Supporters of independent MP Pappu Yadav created chaos on Ashok Rajpath in Patna in support of the Bihar Bandh, which was called to protest alleged irregularities in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examinations. Bandh supporters vandalised government vehicles and forcibly closed shops. MP Pappu Yadav, along with his supporters, continued their protest near the Gandhi Maidan petrol pump, demanding the cancellation of the 70th BPSC Preliminary Examination. The protests severely disrupted traffic in the area, causing inconvenience to commuters. Pappu Yadav warned that the movement would continue if their demands were not met.

In Kaimur district, Pappu Yadav’s supporters, along with workers of the Chhatra Yuva Shakti organisation, staged a demonstration at Bhabhua Ekta Chowk. Former MLA Ramchandra Yadav declared, “This is the fight of all Bihar. Thousands of students from marginalised and poor communities have been sitting on a dharna in Patna for 25 days, but the government continues to ignore their plight, labelling them criminals and Naxals.”

The protests gained traction in other districts as well. In Motihari, Chhatra Yuva Shakti members blocked the NH at Bariyarpur, disrupted traffic, and shut down the local market. They demanded the cancellation of the 70th PT exam and called for a re-examination. The bandh also received support from Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) and AIMIM.

In Begusarai, protesters blocked NH 31 while raising slogans against the state government. They accused the authorities of corruption and negligence in the BPSC examinations. Protesters vowed to intensify their agitation, including plans to show black flags to the Chief Minister during his Pragati Yatra on January 18.

Similar protests erupted in Jehanabad, where JAP workers blocked the Patna-Gaya road near Arwal Mor. They raised slogans against the Central and Bihar governments, highlighting the adverse impact of repeated examination cancellations on candidates’ futures. The administration had to step in to manage the deteriorating situation.

In Saharsa, the bandh supporters closed markets and resorted to acts of arson, further intensifying the unrest.
