Patna, July 15: Bihar Badminton Association secretary KN Jaiswal said that privatisation of sports can change the sports scenario in Bihar.” We can not depend for the promotion of sports only on the government. The associations in the state needs to go for privatisation of their respective sports to boost the game from the grassroots level,” he said.
“I am actively trying this and focusing on setting up at least five badminton academies managed by private companies or individuals in the state. It will help nurture the talents from the tender age, he said.
“I am putting my all out efforts to rope in private parties to open badminton academies in the cities where boys and girls love to play badminton. It would help Bihar players train under the guidance of reputed coaches and improve their standard to match with the players of other dominating states,” he said.
The badminton academies will also help stop the migration of our promising coaches to other states. About seven to eight Bihar coaches are doing jobs in the badminton academies of Pune, Bengaluru and other cities on Rs 40000 to Rs 50000 salary per month, he said.
On the recent changes in Bihar badminton, Jaiswal said that the number of events has increased. “ We are organising more ranking tournaments round the year to keep the players mentally and physically fit for the National tournaments,” he said.
“The ranking system of players will help the association select best state teams for respective National tournaments. Earlier, the players winning the state championships get the chance to represent Bihar in the National tournaments. But now, they have to maintain their ranking to get selected in the state teams,” he said.
We are also planning to organise Bihar Badminton Premier League in December this year. It will be a franchisee based teams vying for top honours, he added.
