Patna: On the final day of the 14th Hockey Bihar Sub-Junior Women’s Hockey Championship, Patna triumphed over Purnia with a 2-0 victory in a fiercely contested match in Purnia on Sunday.
The match remained goalless until the third quarter, with both teams displaying exceptional defence. In the 47th minute of the final quarter, Khushi Kumari of Patna broke the deadlock by scoring the first goal through a penalty corner. Just eight minutes later, Akanksha Yadav doubled Patna’s lead with another goal in the 55th minute, securing the win. Purnia struggled to find the net and ended the match scoreless.
In the third-place match, Siwan dominated Buxar, winning by four goals. Khushi Kumari from Siwan delivered a stellar performance with a hat-trick, while Shabnam Khatoon contributed one goal.
The closing ceremony was graced by Purnia Sadar MLA Mr Vijay Khemka, who presented awards to the winning, runner-up, and third-place teams. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Additional Collector Mr. Rajkumar Gupta, Dr. Rajan Anand, Dr. Gyan Kumari, Dr. Viresh Kumar, Mr. K.N. Bharat, Mr. Vikas Kaushik, Pankaj Nayak, Mrs. Java Bhattacharya, Mr. Ajit Kumar Singh, Mr. Manoj Singh, Raman Kumar, Mr. Himanshu Basant, Eklavya coach Mrs. Ranu, and Vikram Kumar.
The championship concluded with an inspiring display of talent and sportsmanship, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for hockey among young women in Bihar.
