Patna: Rain played spoilsport in the second half of the game as Patna and Begusarai were declared joint champions of the BCA Men’s U23 One Day Trophy 2024–25 at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Thursday.
The much-awaited match could not reach its conclusion due to rain, and eventually, both teams were declared joint winners.
Earlier, Patna won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, Begusarai posted a strong total of 279 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs. Captain Gulshan Upendra Kumar scored 78 runs off 68 balls, hitting 9 fours. In addition, Ankit Raj Chandravanshi scored 55, Yuvraj Ram Yadav made 32, Jayant Jitendra Gautam contributed 45, and Pallav Pulkeshwar Kumar added a useful 18 runs.
For Patna, Abhinav Singh took 3 wickets for 36 runs in 10 overs, including one maiden. Satyam Kundan Kumar and Suraj Kumar Kashyap took two wickets each, while Rishabh Raj claimed one.
In reply, Patna were 93 for 2 in 13 overs when rain halted play. Vikas Vinay Krishna remained unbeaten on 53 runs off 41 balls, hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes. Captain Akash Raj was batting on 25 off 22 balls. Among other batsmen, Animesh Anuj Kumar scored 6 and Virat Arun Pandey managed 2 runs.
For Begusarai, Aniket Subodh Jha and Sudhanshu Raj Kumar took one wicket each.
BCA Secretary Ziaul Arfin, CEO Manish Raj, GM (Anti-Corruption Department) Ajit Pandey, Director (Cricket Development and Operations) Anand Yalvigi, and Cricket Operations Manager AK Chandan were present on the occasion. Officials from the Begusarai and Patna District Cricket Associations were also present.
Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari and Rajeev Nandan Singh were the umpires for the match, while Nitish Kumar and Shivam Kumar served as the scorers.
