Patna: The district administration of Patna is gearing up to take stringent action against coaching institutes operating illegally in the city. District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh reviewed the compliance of operational standards in coaching centres during a meeting of the district-level coaching registration committee. He issued clear directives that legal action would be taken against operators if any of the 247 closed coaching institutes are found to be functioning unlawfully.
Strict Measures Against Illegal Operations
Patna District Magistrate instructed the District Education Officer (DEO) to prepare a comprehensive list of the 247 coaching institutes flagged for closure. In cases of illegal operations, the respective Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) has been tasked with ensuring prompt action. Additionally, 19 new applications for registration have been rejected, and these institutes will also undergo investigation.
Current Status of Coaching Institute Registration
District Education Officer Sanjay Kumar provided updates on the registration of coaching institutes during the meeting. A total of 816 applications have been received, of which 413 institutes have been registered so far. In 2024 alone, 29 new institutes were successfully registered. Seventy-two institutes have been deemed eligible for registration, with their approval process in its final stage. The remaining applications will be processed after securing mandatory clearances such as fire safety NOCs.
Safety Standards Under Scrutiny
The administration had established seven teams to evaluate the safety standards of coaching institutes. These teams inspected over 600 institutes, assessing compliance with fire safety norms, structural integrity, and basic facilities. The District Magistrate emphasised that no institute will be allowed to operate without meeting the required safety standards.
Ensuring Student Safety
Patna attracts a significant number of students from across the country for coaching purposes. Ensuring their safety and providing a conducive educational environment remains the administration’s top priority. Dr Chandrashekhar Singh stated that non-compliant institutes would be shut down immediately.
This initiative represents a critical step towards enhancing transparency and quality in Patna’s education sector. By taking firm action against unauthorised coaching centres, the administration aims to safeguard students’ welfare and establish Patna as a well-regulated and secure educational hub.
