Navelim (Goa), July 27: The qualifying rounds of the Yonex All India Sub Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament being held in Navelim (Goa) under the aegis of Badminton Association of India and hosted by Goa Badminton Association concluded today. Performing brilliantly in the qualifying rounds, Parag Singh of Bihar has made it to the main draw of boys’ U-15 singles and doubles.
In his last singles qualifying match, he defeated Andhra Pradesh’s S Venkata Kornala, while in doubles, partnering with Ranveer Singh, he defeated Karnataka’s Aman Asghan Ali and Armaan Yadav 15–11, 14–16, 15–9.
It may be mentioned here that out of 1024 qualifiers, only 32 players have entered the main draw while 16 of the 256 pairs of doubles have qualified for the main draw.
Meanwhile, Bihar’s Soumya Bharti and Sreeja lost a match against Maharashtra’s Shaurya Madhavi and Ridhima in the fourth and final round of girls’ U-15 doubles, just a step away from qualifying for the main draw. Similarly, Bihar pair of Karthik and Aryan Raj lost in the third round of the doubles match in boys’ under-15 group.
The main draws of the tournament will be played from tomorrow.
