Patna: Olympian Ankita Dhyani won the gold medal in the 3000-metre race at the Indian Open Under-23 Athletics Championship 2024, held today at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna.
Raveendran Sankaran, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Bihar State Sports Authority, announced the achievement, noting that Ankita, a native of Pauri, Uttarakhand, represented India in the 5000-metre race at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She also competed in the 2022 Asian Games and is recognised as an elite middle and long-distance runner.
Sankaran added that Ankita, who is currently training in the UK, returned to Patna specifically for this event to inspire fellow athletes. Her participation has brought great pride to the championship and provided motivation for other competitors. As a token of appreciation, IAS Kapil presented Ankita with a memento.
