Munger ASI Hit on Head by Hooligans Succumbs to Injury

Bhagalpur: An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of police who sustained serious head injury in attack on him by hooligans in Nandlalpur village of Munger district late last evening died today.

ASI Santosh Kumar Singh posted in Mufassil PS at district headquarter, on duty at Dial 112 service had been to Nandlalpur village on receipt of information that inebriated family members of one Ranbir Kumar was indulging in hooliganism in neighbourhood, Syed Imran Masood, SP, Munger said.

He said Ranbir Kumar and his family members together attacked the ASI and hit him on head when he tried to refrain them from indulging in rowdyism. The injured ASI who was initially admitted at Munger Sadar hospital for treatment was referred to Patna by doctors at Sadar hospital taking note of his serious skull injury, SP added.

The ASI who was rushed to Patna, admitted in a private hospital at state capital died in course of treatment. The body of slain ASI was brought to Munger today. He was presented guard of honour at police lines. A native of Bhabua district the body of deceased was later sent to his native place.

As per information the blood marks found at the place of incident suggests hit on head, the deceased fell. Subsequently people responsible for causing him serious head injury dragged his body and leaving him unconscious in front of house of their neighbour, fled from scene. Later informed about the incident by a village resident, police reinforcement was sent to the area and injured ASI was sent to hospital.

Total seven people have been identified by police in connection with the crime of which five have been arrested. Meanwhile Guddu Kumar one of those arrested being taken somewhere on a police jeep for purpose of identification tried to flee snatching arms from policemen, when the vehicle in which he was being taken for identification collided with a tree.

Alert policemen however foiled his attempt firing on his leg. Kumar who sustained leg injury in firing by police has been admitted at hospital for treatment.

It may worth mentioning killing of ASI at Munger is second such incident in state this week in which a policeman became victim of criminal act. Earlier on intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday this week ASI Rajeev Ranjan Mall posted at Fulkaha PS in Araria district died in violence near Laxmipur Chowk where he had gone with police team for arresting a person involved in smuggling in narcotics.

As per media reports the deceased ASI fell and lost his life in violence perpetrated by people trying to resist arrest of narcotics smuggler. The incident of Munger and Araria districts meanwhile has triggered political criticism concerning law and order situation in state.

Tejaswi Yadav, RJD, leader of opposition in state assembly reacting on Munger incident has strongly criticized state government on law-and-order front. The leader of opposition was quoted saying virtually there is no control over the criminals in state. The law-and-order situation in state has taken nosedive in state, he added.
