Bhagalpur: It was after six long years that family members of Indal Rai (36) supposed to have died could learn he was alive. A resident of Bateswar Pahad village located in Sadanandpur Baisa panchayat of Kahalgaon subdivision, Indal is a daily wage earner.

He had gone to Karnataka in 2017 to earn a livelihood working as a labourer in a power plant at Kudki. He had been sent to Karnataka by a labour contractor from Choupal village in the Kahalgaon area along with some other youths.

As per information, Indal went missing soon after reaching Karnataka. All attempts by his mother, Sukumari Devi and wife Baby Devi to locate him failed to yield any result. The labour contractor who had sent him to Karnataka confirmed to his family members that Indal went missing after reaching Karnataka.

With no leads on his whereabouts for a long time, Indal’s family had given up hope that he was still alive. Resigning everything to fate, his family members, including his mother, wife, and children, had been trying to overcome the odds of life since he went missing.

However, things changed for the family when they received a letter on Wednesday this week from one Arvind Kumar, a resident of Amritsar in Punjab. Arvind had intimated in letter that Indal is presently lodged in Amritsar jail on suspicion of being involved in terrorist activity.

He was recently lodged in the same jail, as Arvind had further stated in the letter. He has informed family members they would need to produce his character certificate issued by a competent authority/ representative of the people to seek his release from jail.

Though the letter has brought cheers for family members of Indal, however, they are at a loss as to how he reached Amritsar and was arrested on suspicion of being a terrorist.

The family members of Indal met with the chairman of mukhiya Sangh and subsequently SDO, Kahalgaon yesterday, seeking their help in the release of Indal from jail. According to reports, the SDO has assured them that he will investigate what charges Indal is currently facing. Meanwhile, family members have been directed to obtain a certificate concerning Indal’s family tree, which may be required in order to learn more about the charges against him.
