Rajgir: In the fencing competition of the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 held at the indoor stadium in Rajgir, Haryana clinched the silver medal in the men’s foil team event after a thrilling match, while Maharashtra secured the gold in the women’s sabre team event.
The men’s team event witnessed a fierce contest between Haryana and Maharashtra, with Maharashtra eventually emerging victorious. Maharashtra also claimed gold in the women’s team event, reaffirming their dominance in the sport.
Coach Ajinkya Dhundhare remarked, “The competition was very intense, especially between Haryana and Maharashtra. Most of our team players are from NCOE Aurangabad, and they delivered an excellent performance to win the gold medal.”
The tournament, brimming with sportsmanship, saw players mesmerising the audience with their exceptional skills. Haryana’s coach Narendra Singh said, “We had prepared thoroughly for all three events. Our sabre girls, épée boys, and foil team performed brilliantly. Even though we didn’t win gold in all three, I’m extremely proud of our two golds and one silver.”
Singh further mentioned that two of the four players in the women’s sabre team train at NCOE Patiala and Aurangabad. He credited disciplined training and preparation as the key reasons behind the team’s success.
Khushboo, a member of the gold-winning women’s sabre team, expressed gratitude towards her coach, saying, “We are all very thankful to our coach who guided us and helped bring out our true potential. Our entire team is grateful for his mentorship.”
The fencing championship showcased remarkable talent and dedication, with Maharashtra and Haryana emerging as the top contenders. The athletes’ performances and the foresight of their coaches clearly highlighted the importance of proper training and guidance in achieving success.
