Patna: Madhubani secured a commanding 8-wicket victory over Sheohar in the Hayman Trophy Senior One Day Cricket Championship, held under the Mithila Zone in Sitamarhi. The tournament is being organised under the auspices of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) in collaboration with the Sitamarhi District Cricket Association.
The match, played on Monday at the Janaki Stadium in Sitamarhi, saw Madhubani win the toss and opt to bowl first—a decision that proved to be astute. Sheohar were bowled out for a modest total of 86 runs in 28.4 overs during the 50-over contest. Anirudh Kumar top-scored with 23 runs for Sheohar, while Rohit Kumar remained not out on 17. Contributions also came from Ayush Kumar (15) and Shivam Jha (11), but the team struggled to build a substantial score.
Madhubani’s bowlers delivered an outstanding performance, with Vikas Kumar Jha Tiger and Arun Paswan claiming three wickets each. Deepak Kumar and captain Aditya Raj chipped in with two wickets apiece, dismantling Sheohar’s batting line-up with ease.
In response, Madhubani chased down the target of 87 runs comfortably, losing just two wickets in 19 overs. Saroj Yadav led the charge with an unbeaten 33, supported by Siddharth Singh, who remained not out on 20. Vijay Kumar Mandal contributed 23 runs, while Atul Prakash added 5 to the total. Sheohar’s Akhilesh Kumar and Mohammad Jahangir managed to take one wicket each, but their efforts were insufficient to turn the tide.
Vikas Kumar Jha was awarded the Man of the Match for his exceptional bowling figures. The match was officiated by umpires Ved Prakash and Ashutosh Kumar, with Rohit Rai and Neeraj Kumar handling the scoring duties.
Sheohar will look to bounce back in their next fixture, where they are set to face Muzaffarpur tomorrow.
