KIYG 2025 – Prakriti and Sachin Win Gold Medals in Fencing

Rajgir: Prakriti Sharma of Rajasthan and Sachin from Haryana clinched gold medals in the opening fencing events at the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025.

Prakriti Sharma triumphed in the women’s sabre final, defeating Karnataka’s S. Tanvi 15-12 in a closely contested bout. Although her coach was not present with her on Sunday, her rigorous training and dedication at the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Patiala helped her secure the victory.

Prakriti had earlier overcome top-seeded P. Ambika Devi of Manipur in the semi-final to reach the final.

“My training and my coach’s guidance have been crucial to my success,” said Prakriti.

“I was ready to face any fencer here and was fully committed to winning the gold. It’s been a fantastic experience,” she added.

In the men’s foil final, Sachin of Haryana secured a commanding 15-8 win over Maharashtra’s Rohan Shah. His aggressive approach and quick reflexes allowed him to dominate the match.

“I’m very happy to win the gold medal and contribute to Haryana’s medal tally,” said Sachin. “I thank my coach and parents whose support and guidance made this possible.”
