Patna: Playing on the top board in girls category on the second day of Bihar State Under 9 Chess Championship being held at Pleasant Valley School, Patna under the aegis of All Bihar Chess Association, former national Under 7 winner Ankita Raj broke into the Caro Can defense system of Vanshika Maheshwari playing with black pieces and kept on controlling the game with great patience and in the 22nd move, she paired both her pawns in the seventh row and defeated the opponent.
On the other hand, Kirti Sinha, the only FIDE rated player playing in girls category on board number two, defeated her opponent Devisha Anand in thirty three moves.
In this way, after four rounds, Kirti and Ankita are jointly on top with four points. The final game between these two will be played tomorrow morning for the winner of the competition. In the fourth round of the boys’ category, Yuvan Raman defeated Akarsh Anand of Patna and Manas of Patna defeated Vishnu Vaibhav of Begusarai and entered the fifth round with a joint lead.
In the fifth round, playing on the top board with the Chigorin system of Cecilian Defense, the match played between the two top players Manas of Patna and the outgoing Under 9 Bihar champion Yuvan Raman ultimately ended in a draw after 41 moves. Siddharth Shandilya of Muzaffarpur and Aarush Kumar of Patna, who were jointly in second place with three and a half points, lost to Vishnu Vaibhav of Begusarai and Akarsh Anand of Patna respectively on board number two and three.
The prize distribution of the competition will be done after playing one round on Sunday.
