Khelo India Youth Games 2025: Saket Minz, Sheikh Zeeshan, and Haryana Girls’ Relay Team Set New Records

Patna: Saket Minz (Jharkhand), Sheikh Zeeshan (Uttar Pradesh), and the Haryana girls’ 4x400m relay team set new meet records on the final day of athletics competitions at the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 Bihar, held at the Patliputra Sports Complex on Wednesday. Maharashtra topped the athletics medal tally with 10 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals. Haryana won the highest total number of medals—19 in all—including 6 gold, 6 silver, and 7 bronze. Tamil Nadu also put on a strong show, bagging 6 gold, 6 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

Saket Minz, who had earlier finished fourth in the 400m, made a stunning comeback in the 200m event, winning gold and setting a new meet record with a time of 21.54 seconds. Sheikh Zeeshan leapt 15.66 metres in the triple jump to also establish a new record.

The Haryana girls’ relay team—comprising Vansika, Prachi Sharma, Deepika, and Tannu—smashed the previous meet record to win gold in the 4x400m relay with a timing of 3:48.44.

Khushi Yadav of Bihar delivered an outstanding performance in the 2000m steeplechase, winning the race in 9:52.10. She surged ahead of the other runners with two laps remaining. This marked Bihar’s second gold in athletics—Alka Singh had earlier secured the first gold for the state in shot put.

In the boys’ 4x400m relay, Bihar was on track for gold, but tragedy struck when Raj Sinha, running the second leg, fell just five metres before the finish line, leading to the team’s disqualification. Tamil Nadu seized the opportunity and claimed the gold.

In the girls’ relay, both Haryana and Tamil Nadu ran faster than the previous meet record. Maharashtra, despite finishing ahead of Tamil Nadu, was disqualified for baton exchange outside the exchange zone.

Edwina Jason (Tamil Nadu) clinched silver, but staged a brilliant comeback in the 800m, overtaking Maharashtra’s Janhavi Hirudkar in the final stretch to grab gold. Having already won the 400m, she became one of the rare athletes to secure the 400m–800m double.

Maharashtra: 10 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze – Top Position

Haryana: 6 Gold, 6 Silver, 7 Bronze – 19 Total (Highest overall)

Tamil Nadu: 6 Gold, 6 Silver, 6 Bronze – Balanced Performance
