Kartik topples Amrit to win boys U-17 title, Sanvie wears girls U-17 crown

Patna: Second seed Kartik of Patna defeated top seed Amrit Raj of Muzaffarpur in a three-set thriller  21-14, 17-21, 21-14 to win the boys U-17 title of Li Ning Bihar State Junior Ranking (U-17/U-19) Badminton Championship at DPS Gaya indoor hall in Gaya on Sunday.

However, Amrit Raj avenged his defeat in the boys U-19 final, when the Muzaffarpur lad beat his arch-rival Kartik 22-24, 21-16,  21-17 to win the U-19 singles title. The match was also an exciting three-set thriller.

In the girls U-17 final, second seed Sanvie Anand  of Bhagalpur outplayed top seed Srija of Patna  21-12 21-10 to clinch the crown.

In the girls’ U-19 final top seed Saloni Kumari of (Purnea  won the title as her opponent second seed Srija of Patna retired hurt. At that time Saloni was leading 5-2.

In the U-19 mixed doubles, Rishav Raj and Zainab Nazir (Samastipur/Patna) beat  (Samastipur/Begusarai) pair of Ashutosh Kr Singh and Washwi Bhushan 21-15 21-14 to capture the title.

In the U-17 girls doubles final, Fiza Hasan and Sanvie Anand (Kaimur/Bhagalpur) beat  (Katihar/Patna) pair Somya Bharti and Srija 21-11 21-6  to bag the title.

In boys U-17 doubles final, Kartik and Raj Aryan (Patna/Nawada) got the better of Samastipur pair  Harsh Raj and Rishav Raj 21-15 21-15 to bag the honours.

In the girls U-19 doubles final, Saloni Kumari and Sara Kausar (Purnea/Patna) beat  (Kaimur/Patna) pair of Fiza Hasan and Zainab Nazir 21-19 21-17 to win the title.

In the boys’ U-19 doubles final, Amrit Raj and Tanweer Ahmad (Muzaffarpur) beat (Purnea/Nawada) pair Garv Sharda and Raj Aryan 17-21 21-11 21-16 to win the title.

Later, DPS Gaya students presented attractive cultural programmes to mark the closing ceremony of the four-day meet.
