PATNA: Incumbent president of Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Bihar unit Jagadanand Singh is set to retain his post for another term. He is likely to be elected unopposed as his is the only nomination filed for the post.
Monday was the last date for submitting nomination papers.
The formal announcement of Singh’s election will be made on Tuesday.
Singh, who was initially reluctant to continue as party’s state unit chief, agreed to seek re-election after persuasion by RJD national president Lalu Yadav.
On Monday, Singh submitted his nomination papers to the returning officer at RJD office in the presence of Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who was also his proposer.
Later, Yadav told reporters that Singh was one of the senior-most leaders of the party and followed the socialist ideology. “The party has strengthened under the leadership of Jagdanand Singh and emerged as the single largest party in the 2020 Bihar assembly elections,” he said adding that Jagdababu had infused new life into the party.
Singh has been associated with Lalu Prasad for a long time. One of the founder-members of the RJD. Singh had remained minister in all of the Lalu Prasad’s cabinets. Described as a a close companion of Lalu Prasad, he was among those who supported candidacy of Rabri Devi for the post of chief minister following the arrest of Lalu Prasad in connection with the fodder scam.
