India is now self-sufficient in power generation capacity, says Bihar minister Nitin Nabin

Patna, July 27: On the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ (electricity festival) was organised in Patna on Tuesday by Ministry of Power, Government of India and NTPC under the joint aegis of Government of Bihar. The ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ was inaugurated by Nitin Nabin, Bihar Road Construction Minister by lighting the lamp.

Addressing the programme, Nitin Nabin said that under the leadership of Prime

Minister Narendra Modi, the country has made tremendous progress in the field of electricity and now the country has become self-sufficient in power generation. Bihar has also made a lot of progress in the field of electricity and there is ample amount of electricity available in rural areas as well. This has greatly improved the lives of the common people.

Addressing the program, NTPC Nodal Officer Anurag Sinha said that ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ is being celebrated in all 38 districts of Bihar. Its main objective is to make the major initiatives, achievements and goals taken by the Government of India in the power sector accessible to the common people; so that public participation is encouraged and in the coming days electricity can be reached on a large scale to the common citizens. He said that our power generation capacity is more than 4 lakh MW and now India is exporting electricity to its neighboring countries also.

On this occasion, through cultural programmes, street plays and short films, the people present were apprised about the progress and important initiatives in the field of electricity in the country.

On this occasion, MLA Arun Kumar Sinha, NTPC Regional Executive Director (East Zone-1) Sheetal Kumar and a large number of common people and dignitaries were present.
