Patna: Athletes frequently suffer injuries while playing sports, which necessitate immediate treatment. Timely intervention on the field can alleviate their pain, emphasizing the growing importance of sports physiotherapists today. Many athletes and morning walkers commonly face ligament injuries, which are critical for proper bone function. Ligaments, akin to the software of bones, must be in good condition for the body’s hardware to function well. Nowadays, with increased physical activity, ligaments are prone to quick damage, making physiotherapists vital for treatment and speedy recovery post-surgery. This insight was shared by Dr. Kundan, the physiotherapist of the Bihar Cricket Association.

On Sunday, the Nirmal Kaya Physiotherapy Center organized a seminar cum felicitation ceremony on sports injuries at Hotel Casa Piccola. The seminar aimed to educate physiotherapy students about the importance of sports physiotherapy. Over 300 students from various districts, including Patna, attended the event.

Dr. Kundan explained that athletes often sustain quick injuries while playing sports such as hockey, football, and badminton. The role of a physiotherapist in such cases is to provide immediate treatment to ensure the player can resume playing swiftly. For minor injuries, treatments like ice therapy, stepping, or needling can be administered on the field. However, major injuries require special treatment in the dressing room.

Dr. Himendu, physiotherapist of the Bihar Ranji team, highlighted that normal ligament injuries can be effectively treated by physiotherapists. Prompt and appropriate treatment can significantly speed up recovery and prevent complications, such as the need for joint replacements in young patients. He also pointed out that many sports events lack physiotherapy arrangements, and in such situations, ice therapy can be highly beneficial, offering 60 to 70 percent recovery and pain relief.
