Bhagalpur: At 7th convocation of Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) held on Tuesday more than nine hundred successful students were provided degrees by university. In case of outstanding academic achievement, the students were also provided gold medals on the occasion.
The convocation organized by university after gap of three years because of pandemic was marked by fanfare and gaiety. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, chancellor of university presided over convocation function. In his presidential address on the occasion chancellor asked students to develop self-capability that could ensure they become employment providers in future instead of employment seekers.
Pointing out youth constitute 40 population of country, the chancellor said the young population would play pivotal role in nation building in next twenty-five years, the Amritkal of country. He motivated students to think seriously how best they could contribute in development of nation. Their contribution in nation building could make all difference in next twenty-five years, he told students.
Chancellor urged students to set goal for the purpose. He narrated success stories to motivate students. The chancellor was of the opinion that very objective of convocation ceremony would be achieved if students take pledge that they would work for society, state and nation as they move ahead in life.
Earlier welcoming the guests Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr D R Singh spoke at length on steps being taken by university for overall development. Success achieved by university in field of education, research and extension activities were pointed out by him in course of his address.
VC mentioned as per guidelines of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), university has already developed Academic Bank of Credit and also implemented new education policy directives. Speaking about future plans, Dr Singh said university looks forward to establishing several new laboratories that would work round the clock. The university also aims at beginning commercial production of rhizobium in future, he added.
VC informed university was recently given patient right for its research invention leading to development of nano fertilizer. Total 21 technologies of university have been successfully contributing in augmenting income of farmers, he added. VC further said as part of crop residue management the university has been playing lead in popularizing production of compressed bio-gas from paddy straw. The university is also actively popularizing climate resilient agricultural practices he informed adding developing mushroom farming beside encouraging natural farming is high on agenda of university.
Shri Kumar Sarvjeet, agriculture minister, Bihar government, chief guest at convocation function in his speech told about initiatives planned for achieving the goals set under Krishi road map. Referring to adverse effect of climate change on agriculture, the minister said several measures are being taken by state government to minimize the adverse effects.
Lauding BAU efforts for agriculture development he said funds would not be problem for university in pursuing its goal. He asked scientists to develop models of low-cost agriculture. On the occasion Kumar Sarvajeet announced total nine thousand agriculture related vacancies would be filled up soon through Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).
Delivering convocation address on the occasion, Dr A K Singh, DDG (Horticulture and Crop Science), ICAR, New Delhi praised university efforts in farm sector development at national level. In course of his speech Dr Singh laid stress on development of low-cost farm machinery. The Centre for Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) programme and Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) he felt has helped university in ensuring advancements in teaching and learning.
Total students who were provided degrees on the occasion included 688 undergraduate students, 243 postgraduate students and 49 Ph.D scholars. The recipients of gold medal included Dr C K Panda, assistant professor of BAU, Ramniwas for best Ph.D thesis ,Mayank Kumar, Salvi, Riya Soni, Iram Arzoo, Shruti Sinha, Sakshi Kumari, all agriculture graduates. Ankita Dubey, Nabanita Das and Ritwik Sahoo were other recipients who were given gold medal for their outstanding academic performance at post graduate level.
