Patna: The final match of Bihar’s renowned and highly popular 38th All India Sukhdeo Narain Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament is set for an exciting day-night showdown on October 30. Competing teams Dony Polo Public School and SDV Public School will face off under the floodlights on the turf wicket of Patna’s Urja Stadium, as announced by Rohit Jain, Chairman of the Tournament Committee.
Bijoy Kumar Narain Chunnu, the Organising Secretary of the Tournament Committee, shared that the match will begin at 4:30 pm. As a gesture of goodwill, both players and guests from each team will be presented with saplings to plant in honour of the nation. The match will be officiated by state panel umpires Neeraj Kumar and Atendra Kumar, and for the fifth year in a row, the young cricketers will enjoy the rare opportunity of playing under floodlights. The Tournament Committee will provide each team with free, colourful uniforms, and the match will be played with a white ball. The event promises a festive atmosphere with drumbeats and fireworks on the field.
Chunnu added that the final match will offer a spectacle comparable to the IPL, with Doordarshan recording and broadcasting the entire event. Additionally, a live broadcast will be available on YouTube and the Purbiya Channel, managed by Suresh Mishra and Vinay Kumar. Priyanshu and Sachin will handle both online and offline scoring, while live commentary will be delivered by Mritunjay Jha and Sandeep. The final will consist of 20 overs per side.
In celebration of the occasion, various awards will be presented. Women’s hockey player Anjali Kumari, who has brought pride to Bihar, will receive the Prabha Devi Memorial Award. The J P Srivastava Memorial Award will be presented to rising player Parth from Divine International School, the Tilak Raj Gandhi Award to Arman Ahmed of New B D Public School, the Kamala Sharan Singh Award to Yash Raj of Cambridge Public School, and the Naresh Kumar Sinha Award to Piyush Kumar of Dony Polo Public School.
Mritunjay Jha will receive the Indu Narayan Memorial Award for his outstanding commentary, and Sandeep will be honoured with the Sheela Sinha Memorial Award. At the prize-giving ceremony, awards will be presented to the winners, runners-up, umpires, scorers, officials, commentators, and groundsmen. Esteemed guests and members of the community will also be in attendance.
The tournament’s top honours include the Shaligram Prasad Singh Memorial Award (trolley bags for the winning and runner-up teams), the Shyam Nandan Prasad Memorial Award for the Man of the Series, the Madhava Nand Sahay Memorial Award for the best batsman, the Ashok Agarwal Memorial Award for the best bowler, the Madan Mohan Prasad Memorial Award for the Man of the Match, the Naresh Kumar Sinha Memorial Award for the umpire, and the Dr. Ajay Bhagat Award for the scorer.
