Cooch Behar Trophy: Bhardwaj, Sahoo guide Odisha Clots to 237/8

Patna: A polished unbeaten 75 with 12 boundaries and one six by Shreyansh Bhardwaj  and equally impressive 53 with eight boundaries by Anshuman Sahoo helped Odisha overcome the early set back and score 237 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their first innings against hosts Bihar on the first day of four-day Cooch Behar Trophy match at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Saturday.

Earlier asked to bat first by Bihar who won the toss Odisha were tottering at 133 for the loss of five wickets.  Odisha had a good start with Aashirwad Swain and Aditya Jena put on 33 runs for the first wicket before Aashirwad was caught by wicketkeeper Harshit off Aniket Kumar. Swain made 26. The second wicket partnership between Anshuman Sahoo and Jena too added 41 runs for the second wicket before Jena fell for 17.

Anshuman Sahoo played an anchor innings and scored a half century (53). He was the fourth batsman for Odisha to return to pavilion. His 53 contained 8 boundaries and it came off 123 balls. Later in the day Shreyansh Bhardwaj built up the Odisha innings with a fluent unbeaten 75. His unbeaten knock contained 12 boundaries and one six and it came off 130 balls.

For Bihar spinner Anup Kumar bagged four wickets for 38 runs off 27 overs.  Medium pacer : Md Izhar took two wickets off 21 overs while another medium pacer Aniket Kumar captured two wickets for 48 runs off 15 overs.

Srimad Bhagvad Gita presented to Devesh Chandra Thakur

Earlier, Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Devesh Chandra Thakur inaugurated the match. He was also introduced to the players of both the teams. On this occasion, BCA President Rakesh Kumar Tiwari welcomed him with the scarf of Shantikunj, Haridwar. Former spokesperson of BCA and advocate Patna High Court Sanjeev Kumar Mishra presented Srimad Bhagavad Gita to Devesh Chandra Thakur.

When some journalists questioned advocate Sanjeev Kumar Mishra on his presence at the opening day of the match when he is in the rival camp of present BCA president Rakesh Tiwari, Mishra said: “Cricket is my passion. I have been a former cricketer and when a BCCI match is organized in Patna, the responsibility of its success lies not only with the people associated with cricket, but the people of Bihar as a whole”

Mishra said that he had been a supporter of the good works of BCA in the past, but when unconstitutional acts happened, decisions had to be taken in the interest of sports and players.

It may be mentioned here that Sanjeev Kumar Mishra, the founder of ‘Srimad Bhagavad Gita Aapke Dwar Abhiyan’, has gifted Shrimad Bhagvad Gita free of cost to more than 85000 from common to special people from all over India including Bihar. The mentor of this campaign is Param Pujya Jagad Guru Padma Vibhushan Swami Rambhadracharya Ji Maharaj, under whose guidance the campaign of offering free Srimad Bhagavad Gita Saprem from door to door is being carried out rapidly.

On this occasion Vice President Dilip Singh, Secretary Amit Kumar, Treasurer Ashutosh Nandan Singh, representative of district associations Om Prakash Jaiswal and CEO Manish Raj were present.

Manish Anand of Nawada District Association, Prakash Singh of Vaishali, Dnyaneshwar Gautam of East Champaran along with representatives of various district associations were present at the opening function.
