Completion of two courses in same academic session could be strictly restricted in TMBU

Bhagalpur: Completion of two courses in same academic session could be strictly restricted by T M Bhagalpur University (TMBU) in future. The academic council of university at its meeting held on Wednesday evening decided to constitute a committee that would examine whether enrollment and completion of two courses is permissible.

Dr Jawahar Lal, Vice-chancellor (VC), who chaired meeting of academic council directed to take note of provisions of acts and statutes while committee looks into the matter. In its report committee is likely to recommend steps university need to take in case of students who were enrolled and had completed two courses in same academic session.

Deepak Kumar Dinkar, Public Relation Officer (PRO), of TMBU said the committee has been asked to submit its report within three days. He informed the issue figured in meeting of academic council in course of discussion on case of a former student who had completed master degree course and LLB in same academic session.

Taking into consideration the case of the said former student had been referred to state information commission, the matter was tabled in academic council meeting, PRO added.

As per information discussion on completion of two courses in same session by the former student was included in agenda of meeting in order to seek recommendation of academic council regarding action needed to be taken in the particular case.

However, after a member of academic council pointed out that the said former student is not an isolated case of having completed two courses in same session, the academic council decided to constitute a committee for looking into the matter.

The member of academic council who pointed out that there are more such cases of completion of two courses in same session said most of the cases are related to completion of master degree course and LLB in same academic session.

A participant in academic council meeting who did not wanted to be quoted said in light of recommendation of the committee a strict policy is likely to be framed by university on completion of two courses in same session. The possibility cannot be ruled out that action like cancellation of one of the two degrees obtained in same academic session would be contemplated by university taking into consideration recommendation of the committee, he added.

At its meeting yesterday academic council also approved proposal for introduction of cyber security course in university. The University Grants Commission as per available information in recent past had stressed on beginning courses of cyber security in universities.

Discussion was also held in meeting on introduction of courses of Gandhian thought and Ambedkar thought at degree level. The academic council decided to seek approval of state government on beginning course of Gandhian thought and Ambedkar thought after approval of proposals for the same by university syndicate and senate.
