Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to ensure that no one sleeps in the open at cold nights.

Reviewing preparations for Khichdi Mela with officials at Gorakhnath Temple on Saturday, Yogi stated that anyone found sleeping on the roadside should be brought to night shelters and proper arrangements should be made for people’s stay in these shelter homes.

He added, “Make arrangements as per devotees’ requirements at night shelters during Khichdi Mela, which is organised at Gorakhnath Temple on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.

All night shelters should have an adequate number of beds and blankets. Cleanliness must be maintained at the night shelters.

Additionally, if someone does not have arrangements for food, they should be provided with meal.”

The Chief Minister mentioned that police patrolling at night is very important. During patrolling, if anyone is found sleeping in the open, the policemen should respectfully take them to the nearest night shelter, he added.

Yogi also mentioned that no destitute or needy person should be seen shivering on the streets. Respectable arrangements should be made for their stay at night shelters. If someone appears mentally disturbed on the streets, they should be sent to shelters for the mentally retarded.

He further directed that if someone is repeatedly found near the roadside at night, a thorough investigation should be made. He further instructed officials to take effective action against those involved in antisocial activities.

Furthermore, the CM asked officials to make adequate arrangements for bonfires at every place during the cold weather and Khichdi Mela.

While gathering information about the preparations for the Khichdi Mela, Yogi emphasized that the safety, convenience, and well-being of the devotees coming to the Khichdi Mela should be a priority. He mentioned that devotees should not face any difficulties.

He said, “Special attention should be given to crowd control, security, traffic management, and cleanliness. Timely inspection of all streetlights along the temple route should be conducted, and if any issues are found, they should be rectified.”

The Chief Minister, while instructing to completely clear the streets of any violation, has said that systematic rehabilitation of street vendors should also be ensured.

He suggested selecting appropriate locations for their rehabilitation to minimize the impact on their businesses.

CM Yogi, directing efforts to make the city clean and beautiful, has instructed the municipal corporation to clean up the dirt in the vacant plots. He mentioned that keeping the city clean will help prevent common illnesses among people.

During this process, officials from various departments, including PWD, Municipal Corporation, Police, Electricity Department, Telecommunications, Health Department, Supply Department, Forest Department and Forest Corporation, North Eastern Railway, and Transportation Department, briefed the Chief Minister on their preparations for the Khichdi Mela.

In the meeting, Mayor Dr. Mangalesh Srivastava, ADG Zone Akhil Kumar, Commissioner Anil Dhingra, IG Range J. Ravindra Gaur, DM Krishna Karunesh, SSP Gaurav Grover, Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Sogarwal, CMO Dr. Ashutosh Dubey, along with officers from various departments, were present.
