Patna: City Athletic Club clinched the Rekha Devi Memorial Patna District Junior Division Football League title defeating PSFA 3-1 in the final of this league organized under the aegis of Patna Football Association at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Monday.
The final match witnessed a fierce battle between the two teams. In the first half, the City Athletic Club team was ahead 2-0 with the help of goals scored by Ajay Kumar (9th minute) and Sonu Singh (12th minute).
In the second half, the PSFA players improved their game a bit and the result was seen in the 64th minute when Pankaj Kumar found the target (1-2). Five minutes later, Ayush Raj of City Athletic Club scored a goal to take the lead to 3-1.
Match referee Kailash Prasad showed yellow cards to Rahul, Raj and Shubham of City Athletic Club.
The players were awarded jointly by chief guest and Bihar industries minister Samir Kumar Mahaseth, special guests PK Chaudhary, Guddu Singh, Vidya Bhushan Singh, PFA vice president Shyam Babu Rai, Shyam Babu Yadav, president Ramishwar Prasad and vice president Shyam Babu Rai.
Football legends Arjun Singh, Virendra Bahadur Singh, PR Srivastava, Nand Kishore Prasad, Rajendra Prasad Yadav were specially honoured on this occasion. Shyam Babu Rai, president of Gardanibagh Athletic Club and vice-president of PFA welcomed the guests. Manoj Kumar, secretary of Patna Football Association proposed a vote of thanks.
