Patna: Bihar State Electricity Regulatory Commission has announced the new electricity rates to be implemented from April 1, 2025. Smart prepaid meter consumers will get a discount of 25 paise per unit.

The Bihar government has announced another big relief for those installing smart meters. Consumers installing smart meters will not be fined for consuming electricity more than the prescribed load for six months. This will help these consumers save up to 79 paise per unit, especially in rural areas.
A new category has been created for cold storage for the storage of agricultural products. Cold storage with contract demand up to 74 kW has been placed in the LT-IAS category, while cold storage from 50 kVA to 1500 kVA has been given a separate category. Bihar State Electricity Regulatory Commission has also rejected the proposal to increase power tariff for industrial units and industrial consumers making digital payments will be given a rebate of 1% or up to a maximum of Rs 50,000.
Under the new power tariff, rates for Kutir Jyoti, urban and rural domestic consumers will start from Rs 7.42 per unit, while for those consuming more than 100 units, it will be Rs 8.95 per unit. The move may reduce the financial burden of power consumers, especially those with smart meters, and consumers in rural areas will benefit.
