Bihar’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi Selected for India U-19 Tour of England, BCA President Hails Proud Moment

By A Correspondent
Patna: The president of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), Rakesh Tiwari, has expressed joy over the selection of young Bihar batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Indian Under-19 cricket team for the England tour, calling it a moment of great pride for the entire state of Bihar.

During the tour, scheduled from 24 June to 23 July, the Indian team will play one 50-over warm-up match, five Youth ODIs, and two multi-day matches against England Under-19. The Indian Under-19 squad was selected on Thursday by the Junior Cricket Committee.

Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar drew national attention by scoring 252 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 206.56 while playing for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

On this occasion, BCA president Rakesh Tiwari said, “Heartiest congratulations to Vaibhav Suryavanshi on his selection for the India U-19 tour of England. The Bihar Cricket Association is extremely pleased and proud of his achievement. BCA will continue to support him in his cricketing journey. Vaibhav’s dedication and hard work are commendable, and we are confident that he will elevate Indian cricket to new heights in the coming years. His best is yet to come.”

It is worth noting that in 2024, Vaibhav became the youngest player ever bought in IPL history when Rajasthan Royals signed him for ₹1.1 crore. In the same year, he made his debut for Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, scoring 71 runs off 42 balls against Baroda, becoming the youngest Indian to score a half-century in List-A cricket.

Vaibhav’s impact has also been notable at the international level. In a Youth Test match against Australia U-19 in Chennai, he smashed a century in just 58 balls, setting a record for the fastest U-19 Test century by an Indian. Additionally, his two crucial half-centuries played a significant role in India’s journey to the final of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup.

India U-19 Squad:
Ayush Mathre (Captain), Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Vihaan Malhotra, Maulyarajsingh Chawda, Rahul Kumar, Abhiyagan Kundu (Vice-Captain & Wicketkeeper), Harvansh Singh (Wicketkeeper), R. S. Ambarish, Kanishk Chauhan, Khilan Patel, Henil Patel, Yudhajit Guha, Pranav Raghavendra, Mohammad Inaan, Aditya Rana, and Anmoljeet Singh.
