Patna: Bihar’s number one women player Saloni Kumari, reigning Bihar men’s champion Yash Bardhan and former state champion Md Tabrez won their respective singles matches and moved into the second round of the 84th Yonex Sunrise Senior National Open Badminton Championships that began in Pune on Friday.
In the men’s singles, Yash Bardhan beat Biplakshya of Tripura I straight sets 21-14, 21-17 to move into the next round.
In the women’s singles, Saloni Kumar fought hard to down Sai Uttejitha Rao (PSPB) 21-13, 10-21, 21-15 and entered the second round.
In another men’s singles, Md Tabrez beat Boje Bikon(Arunachal) 21-4, 21-11. However, Ritesh Kumar of Bihar lost his men’s singles match to Swadhin Gouda(Odhisa) 14-21, 07-21.
In the mixed doubles, Bihar pair of Sidharth and Akansha lost to Mizoram pair of Joseph and Lalrampuii 19-21, 17-21. In the women’s doubles, Bihar pair of Saloni and Simran lost to Madhya Pradesh pair of Aishwarya and priyanka 16-21, 12-21.
In the women’s singles, Bihar’s Akanksha lost to Kanika Kanwal of Railways 14-21, 12-21.
