Patna: Saloni Kumari of Bihar moved into the third round of the girls’ singles in the National Junior (U-19) Badminton Championship being played in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
According to Bihar Badminton Association (BBA) secretary KN Jaiswal, in her first round match, the Purnia girl Saloni beat Ankita Gagoi of Assam 21-08, 21-09. Later in the second round prevailed over Tanvi Reddy of Telangana in a three-set thriller 21-18, 19-21, 21-18.
In the boys’ singles first round, Gopal Kumar of Bihar lost to Manraj Singh of Haryana 8-21, 3-21.
In another match of U-19 girls singles, Srija of Bihar lost to Sakshi Phogat of Rajasthan 7-21, 4-21.
Another Bihar girl Sanvie too lost her first round match against Jayaitika Rathore of Chhattisgarh 15-21, 5-21.
In the U-19 mixed doubles, Bihar pair of Raj Aryan and Ranya Rana beat Jammu and Kashmir pair of Ayush and Unnati 25-23, 21-8.
Bihar U-19 girls pair of Saloni Kumari and Sanvie beat Rakshita and Annushree in a three-set thriller 17-21, 21-09 and 21-17 to move into the next round.
