Bihar’s Piyush Raj wins decathlon silver medal in National Youth Athletics Championship

Patna: Piyush Raj of Bihar won silver medal in in the Decathlon event of the 18th National Youth Athletics Championship at Udupi, Karnataka. Decathlon event is a combination of ten disciplines of athletics which include 100, 400 and 1500 metres race, long jump, high jump, hurdles, discus throw, shot put, javelin throw and pole vault.

Piyush Raj has participated in this event for the first time. It is noteworthy that Piyush had made a national record in the Hexathlon event in the 18th NIDJAM 2023, held recently in Patna.

Giving this information, Director General of Bihar State Sports Authority Raveendran Sankaran said that for his preparation, Piyush Raj was sent to Bhopal by the authority for one month training under the guidance of a national coach. The result is in front of everyone today, it is the best of Bihar. It is a matter of great pride for him, he said.

He said that under the sports policy of the Bihar government, Bihar State Sports Authority had made proper arrangements for nutritious food, training along with new Adidas shoes and other equipment for Piyush Raj. If all goes well, Piyush Raj will definitely be selected to participate in Asian Youth Athletics Championship, he said.

Expressing happiness over Piyush’s feat, Bihar Art Culture and Youth Department minister Jitendra Kumar Rai, secretary, Bandana Preyshi and director general of Bihar State Sports Authority Raveendran Sankaran congratulated Piyush and extended their best wishes for his bright future.
